Slums Of Dubai: Poverty Under The Shadow Of Skyscrapers

Are there slums in UAE?

I never thought I would come across such neighborhoods on my trip to Dubai, and I want to write an article about them. Before my trip to Dubai, I thought that no one had financial problems in Dubai and all people live in prosperity. But now that I am here, I see things are not as good as I thought.

When I saw the slums of Dubai, my opinion changed, and I realized that this city is presented in social media as a dream city, but in reality, it is not.

The interior of Dubai is not what you see in photos and videos, but what I will tell you about it!

The slums of Dubai

The slums of Dubai

None of the main neighborhoods of Dubai, which you see on the map, are slums, and the people who live in them lead a normal life.

You should know that the slums of Dubai are not located in the center of Dubai, but these slums are built around the city of Dubai, which are not officially recorded in the maps. The government of Dubai does not recognize them either because they were built illegally.

Many people live in these neighborhoods who do not have access to sanitary water and electricity, and only some people have access to electricity, which is illegal. These neighborhoods in Dubai have no name, and they are all called slums. Stay with me to learn more about these slums.

What are the characteristics of slums in Dubai?

As I said in the above section, the slums of Dubai are not recognized by the municipality, so there are no welfare services, public transportation, asphalt, hospitals, etc., in these neighborhoods, and people live in the worst-case scenario.

Since these neighborhoods are around the city, it isn’t easy to go there without public transportation. For this reason, it is impossible to see them if you do not leave the city of Dubai.

Of course, you don’t go to these places because there are many diseases in these areas due to the lack of hygiene.

You can find one of these slums on the east side of Dubai next to Highway 44 and 611. Also, several poor people live next to the Al Quoz areas of Dubai.

Who lives in slums?

Who lives in slums

Almost none of the native people of Dubai live in these areas, but most of these areas are made up of immigrants and workers who cannot find good money in Dubai.

Unfortunately, the number of these people is increasing day by day because before immigrating to Dubai, everyone thinks that they can find a good job in this city. Still, after a while, they find it difficult to find a job in Dubai and have to live in these areas.

Everything considered

Things happen around Dubai that few people know about because the Dubai government doesn’t report these things so as not to ruin the tourist destination reputation of the city. Until someone researches this issue, they won’t know exactly how people live in Dubai.

Begging in Dubai is a crime, and no one has the right to sleep in public places, but sometimes the situation of these migrants deteriorates in such a way that they are forced to take refuge in the airport, shopping malls, etc., and sleep there. If Dubai officers see these people, they will arrest them immediately, so it is unlikely that you will also be able to see scenes in Dubai.

Why do you think there are such neighborhoods in Dubai, and what is the solution to fix this problem? Share your opinion with me in the comments section.

In the end, I suggest you read the article “The Dark Side of Dubai” to know the reason for the existence of such neighborhoods in Dubai.
