What Happens If You Are Born In Dubai?

UAE Citizenship By Birth

The city of Dubai has made significant progress in the last few years, so some travelers, after getting off the plane and seeing its beauty, say to themselves, I wish I were born in Dubai!

Of course, this sentence was untrue for me, as I traveled to Dubai from America. Still, it is a very familiar sentence for travelers who have traveled to this city from third-world countries such as Iraq, and Afghanistan. After seeing the city of Dubai, most people think about what fate awaits their child if they give birth in Dubai.

My purpose in traveling to Dubai is not to answer such questions, but since many people emailed me and were looking for answers, I decided to research this topic and share it with you.

If you also want to know what happens if your child is born in Dubai, stay with me until the end of this article.

What happens if your child is born in Dubai?

In general, I must say that if both parents are foreigners and their child is born in Dubai, the government of Dubai will not give the child or the parents citizenship because Dubai’s law is based on jus sanguinis.

If the parents have legally traveled to Dubai, they can only get a residence permit for their child in Dubai. Of course, obtaining a permanent residence in this way is impossible, and the validity of a newborn’s residence is only 3 years, after which the residence must be renewed.

How can you get permanent residency after the birth of a child in Dubai?

How to get Dubai citizenship for your child

In some circumstances, obtaining permanent residency in Dubai for both the child and the parents is possible. These conditions are divided into 3 categories, which I have listed below.

  1. If one of the immigrant parents has resided in Dubai for a long time (families that settled in the UAE before 1925 and stayed until 1972), the child born to them can obtain permanent residency in Dubai.
  2. If the child has an Emirati father, the child can obtain permanent residence in the UAE and Dubai. This is even though it does not matter if the child is born in or outside the UAE; in any case, they can obtain permanent citizenship.
  3. If the child is born to an Emirati mother and a foreign father, the child can obtain permanent residence in the UAE, but it isn’t easy. Since one of my childhood friends is married to an Emirati woman, I know enough about this. In this case, parents should follow the procedures of obtaining a birth certificate for their child through the UAE Ministry of Health.

Advantages and disadvantages of obtaining Dubai residence through the birth of a child

In general, the advantages and disadvantages of this migration method include the following:

Advantages

  1. Benefiting from many facilities in the field of health and education
  2. The possibility of your child accessing high-quality international schools and mastering the English language more
  3. The emergence of better job opportunities and the possibility of working in international companies with good working conditions and high salaries.
  4. The possibility of living in a multicultural society and the possibility of getting to know different cultures of the world

Disadvantages

  1. Dubai’s warm climate for living

All in all

As you have seen in this article, obtaining a residence permit in Dubai through the birth of a child is more challenging than they say in advertisements, and you must meet some special conditions. Of course, in developing cities like Dubai, one can easily obtain a residence permit using techniques such as investment, company registration, etc. Still, all this requires money and Full familiarity with the laws of Dubai. Therefore, I suggest you talk to an Emirati lawyer who is familiar with this country’s laws.

If you have decided to live and give birth to your child in Dubai, I suggest you read the article “List Of International Schools In Dubai” to get more information about this city and know which schools you can take your child to in the future.
