Is Turkey In The Middle East? Yes Or No

Welcome to the article about the most complicated geography of a country in the world. Turkey is a country that geographically has one of the strangest situations in the world, and this matter has drawn my attention and made me travel to this country and share my experiences with you.

Is Turkey In The Middle East?

Yes, Turkey is simultaneously located in the Middle East, Asia, and Europe. Now you understand why I said that Türkiye has the most complicated geography in the world.

Turkey plays a very important role in the Middle East. It is a bridge between Asia and Europe and connects the Asian countries of the Middle East to the European continent. This important situation in terms of politics and economy has also had a great impact on Turkey.

You are only four minutes away from knowing this completely. Just take four minutes and read this article to learn how Turkey is in the Middle East, Europe, and Asia.

Türkiye’s position in the Middle East

Due to its geographical location, Turkey has received much attention from the world’s people regarding tourism, economy, and politics.

97% of Turkey is located in the Asian, and only 3%, which includes a part of the city of Istanbul, is located in Europe. However, due to Turkey’s agreement with the European Union, the whole world considers this country to be a European country. This is the main reason why Türkiye is popular among tourists.

About 80 years ago, the Ottoman Empire ruled Turkey. The customs of the Turkish people at that time were more similar to those of the Middle Eastern countries, such as Iran and Iraq, but after the destruction of the Ottoman Empire and the establishment of the Republic of Turkey by Atatürk, the Turkish people were more inclined towards European countries and tried to behave like Europeans. I must mention that customs and traditions are still like in the past time in the eastern cities of Turkey.

The reasons for the importance of Türkiye in the Middle East

According to my conversations with the Turkish people, I realized that Turkey is one of the 3 most populous and powerful countries in the Middle East.

Below, I have mentioned the most important reasons for the importance of Turkey:

Transit: Because of Turkey’s excellent location between Europe, Asia, and Africa, it is one of the most important routes for the transportation of commercial goods.

Control of important straits: Dominating the Bosphorus and Dardanelles has made Turkey interfere in most of the trade in the region.

Attracting investors: Turkey has attracted the attention of many investors due to its tourist and recreational attractions, and in the last few years, many immigrants and investors have immigrated to this country.

Membership in NATO: Turkey’s membership in NATO has given it much control over the security of the Middle East.

Where is the Middle East?

The countries of the Middle East are generally referred to as countries geographically located at the central point of the intersection of the three continents of Asia, Europe, and Africa. Of course, there are also different definitions. For example, all researchers agree that Iran and Iraq are part of the Middle East, but they disagree about the countries of Ethiopia and Pakistan.

For more information about the Middle East, I have listed the countries in this region below:

Bahrain Kuwait Jordan
Egypt Lebanon Saudi Arabia
Iran Oman Syria
Iraq Palestine (West Bank and Gaza Strip) Turkey
Israel Qatar UAE

Geography and borders of the Middle East

According to Encyclopedia Britannica, the lands around the southern and eastern shores of the Mediterranean Sea were called the Middle East. Over time, this region’s borders expanded to the Persian Gulf countries (Iran, Iraq, Qatar, Oman, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and the United Arab Emirates), the north of the Mediterranean Sea, and the south of Saudi Arabia.

It is said that the Middle East is a West Asia that extends from the southwest to the Bab al-Mandab strait, from the northwest to the Dardanelles strait, and from the east to the Himalayas and the port of Karachi. However, there is still no agreement on the definition of the Middle East. All researchers agree that the Persian Gulf, Yemen, and Turkey countries are in the Middle East. Still, there is no agreement on North African countries, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Cyprus.

The most important reasons for the importance of the Middle East

The Middle East is full of oil and gas resources, and it is possible to use them throughout the region. Also, the importance of various metal mines in this region cannot be ignored. These features have caused countries worldwide to depend on the Middle East for their energy supply. This dependence has made the role of the region important in political equations.

Throughout history, Western governments have used any interference and abuse, and due to the diversity of the Middle East’s racial, ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds, they have taken advantage of every opportunity to create differences and have done everything to plunder the resources of this region.
