Beylerbeyi Palace Istanbul | Ticket Price + Photos + How To Get

Despite the presence of palaces such as Dolmabahçe and Topkapi Palace, few tourists plan to go to Beylerbeyi Palace Istanbul.

For those who have visited Dolmabahçe, it might not be fun to visit Beylerbeyi Palace because it is smaller and less regular than Dolmabahçe. However, it is highly recommended that you visit this palace if you plan to stay in Istanbul for a long time like me.

In that case, you can board a ferry from Eminonu or Karaköy, get to Üsküdar or Kadıköy, and travel the rest of the way by bus.

You can take buses 15B, 15H, 15KC, 15E, and 14M to Beylerbeyi Palace.

Introducing Beylerbeyi Palace Istanbul

Beylerbeyi Palace, in Istanbul Turkish, means the palace of the elders. It is one of Turkey’s most beautiful buildings and a remnant of the Ottoman period.

Even if you have no interest in history, visiting this palace can still be interesting! Beylerbeyi was built from 1861 to 1865 by Sultan Abdulaziz, and now it has become a museum like other famous palaces in the city.

In the following, I will share my experience of visiting this palace with you so that you know what awaits you before going to this palace.

The architecture of Beylerbeyi Palace Istanbul

Undoubtedly, the most important reason for visiting historical places is their old and beautiful architecture. Although it looks very big from the outside, the inside is smaller than you think. The exterior of this palace is made of marble.

Another important point in this palace’s design is that you can see a great view of the Bosphorus Strait by opening all the doors and windows.

It is quite clear that the engineers of this project have done their best to build Beylerbeyi Palace in front of the Bosphorus Strait so that the people who live there can enjoy the view of the Bosphorus Strait.

There are pavilions and very spectacular gardens on the grounds of the palace. The garden behind this palace is filled with rare flowers and plants such as magnolia, and the pavilions inside the garden are decorated with marble. The interesting point is that the area of the palace and its surroundings is more than three thousand square meters.

The interior of this palace was completely different from the exterior. There was no use of marble on the walls in the interior design, and most of what I saw was wood and bricks.

Different parts of Beylerbeyi Palace Istanbul

Beylerbeyi Palace has 6 halls, 24 rooms, and a large swimming pool. It also has 3 additional mansions: the Yellow Pavilion, the Marble Pavilion, and the Barn Pavilion.

The palace’s garden is beautiful, but taking pictures and filming inside is strictly prohibited. To understand this beauty, you have to go there and visit it.

Are you worried about not being able to take photos at this location? Do not worry. Read the rest of the article.

There is a cafeteria in the garden of this palace, which has arranged some of its seats inside the courtyard. You can sit on these chairs and take a picture of yourself with the view of Beylerbeyi Palace.

While visiting this palace, the furniture and red carpets drew my attention to them, and that’s why I decided to ask about them from the tourist guide of this palace.

He told me that Sultan Abdul Hamid II, imprisoned in this palace, made these furniture. It is interesting to know that all these results from 6 years of hard work for this person.

Sultan Abdulaziz and his mother had a special interest in painting, and that’s why there are beautiful paintings in the corners of Beylerbeyi Palace Istanbul.

The decorations used in Beylerbeyi Palace combine Eastern and Western art, as seen in the upper-floor hall in Mabeyn-i Hümayun.

Nautical patterns play an important role in ceiling decorations, and many other designs were inspired by oriental-style patterns or nature. Among the most beautiful halls of this building is the Blue Hall.

The interesting point of this palace is that it has three entrances, and the reason is that in the past, the entrances for women and men were separate.

The male part is more glamorous than the female one and was used for state management. The office of the court ministers is located in the eastern part of the palace, and the king’s harem and his mother’s room are in the western part.

Below are the parts of this palace that caught my attention the most so that you can get to know them:

Beylerbeyi Palace Pool: At first glance, this pool may seem like a very simple place, but after researching it, I fell in love with it. In addition to being used as a bath in the past, this pool was also responsible for cooling the air of the palace in the summer season. This pool is built under the palace, and it cools the palace from below.

Large Lion statue: The giant Lion statue at the entrance is another eye-catching monument in this palace. The statue is made of metal and is very impressive and beautiful at first glance.

Conclusion

If you are interested in history, visit this palace. Still, if you want to go there for fun, the Dolmabahçe Palace is a better option, located near Beylerbeyi Palace. One of the most important features of Beylerbeyi Palace is its easy access. There are also other tourist places around this palace, such as Basilica Cistern, Madame Tussauds, Dolmabahçe Palace, etc., which you can visit.
