I never thought I would visit Trabzon during my trip to Turkey, but since my stay in Turkey increased, I decided to visit other cities, and Trabzon was one of those cities.

The duration of my stay in Trabzon was more than a week, and therefore, I visited many places in this city. In the following section, I will share all my experiences traveling to this city and talk about the places I visited there.

Tourist attractions in Trabzon

Trabzon is a religious city whose people pay some attention to morals and religious behaviour. Trabzon is suitable for people looking for relaxation in a peaceful environment rich in ancient buildings, historical sights, and stunning nature.

Trabzon has many tourist attractions, some dating back to ancient empires. Initially founded by Greek traders in the 8th century AD, it is now the busiest port city in the Black Sea region. Boztepe Park

One of the first things to do in Trabzon Turkey, is to visit Boztepe Park. You can easily go to Boztepe from Trabzon by bus or taxi.

Boztepe is located three kilometers southeast of Trabzon city center, where I could see a complete view of Trabzon city.

As it is clear from the photos, this city is full of green areas, and Boztepe Park is one of these areas, located in the upper part of the city and next to the Black Sea. This place is one of the best places for fun, temporary rest in Trabzon, and a scenic spot for taking souvenir photos.

This area, also known as Mt. Minthrion, is near Trabzon. Boztepe is a hill where the view of the sunset from the top is very spectacular. Four springs are on top of this hill, considered holy in the people’s belief.

Girls’ Monastery (Kızlar Manastırı) is one of the attractions of Trabzon, which is located on Beztepe Mountain. During my visit, I realized that this place was built at the end of the 14th century during the Trabzon Empire, and it was renovated in 2021 and opened to the public. There are various paintings on the walls of the cave; unfortunately, some of them have been destroyed due to humidity.

The Castle Of Trabzon is located in the centre of the city of Trabzon and is considered one of the oldest remains of the Roman Empire. The castle and back walls of the building were used as military buildings. To see the walls of Trabzon Castle, it is better to go to Zagnos Bridge.

Uzungol Lake

One of the best places to visit in Trabzon is Uzungol Lake. Be sure to include a visit to Uzungol Lake in your list of things to do in Trabzon Turkey. The lake has a magnificent view and unique places to visit. This area has a forest full of trees, and its exciting point is the presence of many mosques among the forests. The minarets of the mosques protrude from the trees, presenting a wonderful picture.

Uzungol lake is a lake in the area called Caykara and is far 99 kilometres away from Trabzon. This lake is also known as Seraho. Uzungol was formed by falling rocks from the surrounding mountains and blocking the river. The word “Uzungol” in Turkish means long lake; Uzungol Lake is one kilometre long, 500 meters wide and 15 meters deep.

There are several hiking trails for tourists in the beautiful nature around the lake and places for fishing. Facilities such as bungalows have been built for tourists to stay around the lake and in a nearby village of the same name.

Sumela Monastery

A monastery is in a cave in the heart of the mountains and next to a stream 17 km from Maçka. The height of this cave is 250 meters from the valley, and you have to go through a winding road to reach it.

A complete visit to Sumla Monastery takes 6 hours, but it’s worth it because you won’t find a monastery in the middle of the rocks anywhere in Turkey other than Trabzon.

The cost of visiting Sumela Monastery is around twenty dollars in 2024, and the best way to get there from Trabzon is by taxi, which takes about 40 minutes.

This park is located in the western part of Trabzon. There are different species of plants and animals in this park. Animals such as deer, elk, bear, wolf, wild boar, and mountain goats also live there. I suggest you visit this park if you are looking for Trabzon places.

Trabzon Hagia Sophia Camii

If you are a fan of visiting historical monuments, include visiting Trabzon Hagia Sophia Camii in your list of things to do in Trabzon, Turkey. Hagia Sophia was built during the Byzantine by order of Emperor Constantine I and was restored in the 6th century by Roman Emperor Justinian and used as a church for 916 years.

After the conquest of Istanbul by Sultan Muhammad Fatih in 1453, this place was turned into a mosque and was used as a mosque for 482 years, and in 1935 it was turned into a museum by order of Kemal Atatürk, and again, in 2013, it was turned into a mosque.

The path leading to Atatürk Palace is uphill, and you can see and enjoy the view of the city by passing through it.

This place was gifted to Atatürk during his stay in Trabzon so that he could stay there. The cost of visiting this place is about 30 liras. There is not much to visit in this place, but you can walk in the courtyard and take pictures.

The beaches of Trabzon 

The closest beach in Trabzon suitable for a family outing is the small Kaşüstü beach, located in the city of Yomra, ten kilometers from Trabzon. Devagiri public beach is also located 25 km west of the city and named Akçakale in Kalecik district. Of course, these beaches do not have favorable tourism facilities. The closest beaches with sufficient facilities are Giresun in the west and Batumi in the east.

Dilektasi Waterpark

Since there is only one water park in Trabzon, I expected it to be very well-equipped and large, but it was not.
This water park is suitable for those looking to escape from the summer heat, but if you don’t like crowds or long queues, don’t go to this water park.

Due to the lack of good management, cleaning this water park is also problematic, and you may not have a good experience going there.

This water park is located 50 km from Trabzon, and the entrance fee is 30 dollars for adults and 25 dollars for children.
