On November 24, 2022, I went to Istiklal Street to buy the goods I needed on Black Friday. On this day, I made several mistakes, and the reason was a lack of awareness. That’s why I decided to write this article for you so that you have enough information before shopping on Black Friday in Istanbul.

In the rest of this article, I will tell you my experiences so that you can make safe purchases without making mistakes.

Make a shopping list

Since I am a traveler and do not have a fixed abode, I did not have enough time and focus to make a shopping list. That’s why I made a few wrong purchases that I didn’t need.

If you go shopping on Black Friday without a list of the things you need, because of the many discounts, you may end up buying things you don’t need, and as a result, you will end up with confusion and waste of time and money.

Go shopping early in the morning

In my opinion, the biggest mistake I made on Black Friday in Istanbul was that I went to Istiklal Street for shopping in the evening.

When I arrived at Istiklal Street at 18:00, I was surprised because most of the store shelves were empty, and people had bought all of them early in the morning.

If you want to take advantage of all the discounts, go to shopping malls in Istanbul early in the morning to be among the first to buy discounted goods.

Comparing prices in several stores

Before buying the products you need, visit all the shops and compare their prices because you may find a shop that sells the product you need at a lower price than other shops.

If you are in the Beşiktaş neighbourhood, I suggest you visit the Zorlu Shopping Center because, on Black Friday, the shops in this shopping center have many discounts. You can compare the prices of products by visiting this shopping center for a few hours.

Beware of unknown brands

If you read the article “Where To Buy Fake Clothes In Istanbul“, you will realize that many people go to this city to buy fake clothes.

So, when shopping on Black Friday, be careful so that the sellers do not sell you fake goods. It is difficult to distinguish the original product from the fake one in Istanbul, so if you don’t want to buy a fake product, make sure to buy the product you need from a reputable shopping center.

I was very happy when I bought headphones from a seller on Istiklal Street because I bought a JBL headphone for 20 dollars. When I got back to the hotel, I realized that I had bought a fake, low-quality headphone, which made me very upset.

Check product return policies

After that, I realized that the headphones I bought were fake, I returned to Istiklal Street to return them to the seller.

But because I didn’t check the product return policies before buying, the seller told me that he doesn’t take back the products he sold, and that’s why I had to keep those poor-quality headphones with me.

So, ask the seller about the product’s return policy before paying, and if he doesn’t agree to take the product back, don’t buy from him.

Identification of fake discounts

While I was at the hotel, I researched the fake headphones I had bought and found out that the actual price was $18, and the seller had sold it to me at a higher price.

Some sellers in Istanbul raise the price of their products and then apply discounts on them just to attract customers.

Check the price on different websites before buying the product so that you don’t buy a product with fake discounts.

Follow social networks

Some stores in Istanbul are active on social networks, and on Black Friday, they put a lot of discounts on social networks.

Before visiting a store in person, you can find out about its discounts on its Instagram page and buy from it if you are satisfied with the price of the products.

To sum up

Black Friday shopping in Istanbul requires skill. Without the knowledge and skills, profit-seeking people in Istanbul will scam you.

If you don’t want to lose like me, follow the tips I mentioned above. If you have a friend who lives in Istanbul and you think this article can be useful for him, send this article to him, too, so he doesn’t lose out.
