How To Get From Asian To European Side Of Istanbul?

European and Asian side of Istanbul

Since Istanbul is divided into 2 Asian and European parts, moving between these two parts must have become one of your concerns, and you want to get acquainted with the different methods of transportation between these two parts.

I have been staying in Istanbul for more than three months, and I have travelled the route between the two continents many times. I am well familiar with all the ways of transportation between these two parts, and I can guide you properly.

How to go from Asia to Europe in Istanbul?

I travelled between these two parts during my stay using a taxi, subway, ferry, and bus, which I will describe in detail below.

How to get from the Asian to the European side of Istanbul by metro?

Wherever you are in the city, you only need to use the Marmaray Trains, also known as the B2 line, to travel between the two continents by metro. Marmaray is a 76-kilometer railway that passes under the sea and connects the European and Asian sides of Istanbul.

To go from the Asai part to the European part by metro, you need to reach one of the stations that I have specified below.

Gebze İstasyonu Güzelyalı İstasyonu Cevizli İstasyonu Göztepe İstasyonu
Darıca İstasyonu Tersane İstasyonu Maltepe İstasyonu Feneryolu İstasyonu
Osmangazi İstasyonu Kaynarca İstasyonu Süreyya Plajı İstasyonu Söğütlüçeşme İstasyonu
Fatih İstasyonu Pendik İstasyonu İdealtepe İstasyonu Ayrılık Çeşmesi İstasyonu
Çayırova İstasyonu Yunus İstasyonu Küçükyalı İstasyonu Üsküdar İstasyonu

Tuzla İstasyonu Kartal İstasyonu Bostancı İstasyonu Erenköy İstasyonu
İçmeler İstasyonu Başak İstasyonu Suadiye İstasyonu Atalar İstasyonu
Aydıntepe İstasyonu

The cost of using the Marmaray line in 2024 varies according to the number of crossing stations, which I have mentioned below:

  • Passing from 1 to 7 stations costs 18 liras
  • Passing 8 to 14 stations costs 26 lira
  • Passing 15 to 21 stations costs 18 liras
  • Passing from 22 to 28 stations costs 30 lira
  • Passing from 29 to 35 stations costs 35 lira
  • Passing from 36 to 43 stations costs 39 lira

How to get from Asia to the European side of Istanbul by Ferry and Speedboats?

To go to the European side from the Asian side or vice versa, many piers have been opened so that people can board a Ferry through these piers and cross the Bosporus Strait.

Kadikoy and Uskudar are two of the most famous piers in the Asian part of Istanbul. Besiktas, Kabatas, and Eminoglu piers are also located in Europe.

Ferries constantly move between these piers, and you can go to the other part of Istanbul by going to these piers.

The maximum price of a ferry ticket is about 30 liras. For more information, visit the website sehirhatlari.istanbul.

For a swift and convenient journey between continents, motor boats and speedboats are the way to go. These nimble vessels are readily available at the docks where the Ferries are stationed. Simply Head to these docks and board the Speedboats for a hassle-free trip.

In my opinion, the best way to travel between the two continents is to use a ferry because during the 20 minutes, you can enjoy the beautiful scenery of Istanbul from afar and watch the seagulls fly in the sky.

How to get from Asia to the European side of Istanbul by bus?

There is another transportation service in Istanbul that is smaller than regular buses called Metrobus.

Istanbul’s metro buses operate 24 hours a day. Of course, don’t use the metro bus from 5 to 8 p.m. if you have something important to do, as you will likely get stuck in traffic.

To use Metrobus, you must go to one of the following stations:

  • Söğütlüçeşme
  • Fikirtepe
  • Uzunçayır
  • Acıbadem
  • Altunizade
  • Burhaniye
  • 15 Temmuz Şehitler Köprüsü
  • Zincirlikuyu – Avcilar Yönü

The cost of the metro bus is calculated according to the number of stops it has. In general, the lowest cost of travelling between Asian and European sections is 13 liras, and the highest cost is 30 liras. However, the costs may change during your trip and become more expensive, so be sure to know the cost before using it. You should also know that you must use the Istanbulkart to pay the costs.

How to get from Asian to European side of Istanbul by taxi?

A vehicle that is available everywhere is a taxi. If the taxi fare were not so expensive, I would always use a cab to go from the Asian side to Europe, because it is delightful to cross the Bosphorus Bridge and see the grandeur of the bridge.

A taximeter calculates the price of a taxi in Istanbul. According to my experience and the information I got from the theistanbulinsider, you should pay about 12.89 lire for every kilometre in Istanbul by taxi. I spent about 180 lira to go from Üsküdar to Taksim Square, which was expensive.

One problem that taxis have is that some drivers take longer distances to charge you more, so if you plan to travel by taxi, be sure to check the route yourself on Google Maps.

Finally

Finally, based on my experience, I have made a short comparison between the methods of transportation on two continents so that you can use public transportation in Istanbul with complete information.

Property Speed Cost Transportation methods
It has many fast stations quick Inexpensive Subway
Seeing outside and experiencing crossing the bridge Slow during rush hour medium Metrobus
Seeing the full view of the bridge and filming Slow during rush hour Expensive Taxi
The experience of boarding a ship and a different journey Almost fast Inexpensive Ship

I suggest you read the article “Public Transport in Istanbul” to get more information.
